I have been in marketing for 8 years, social media for the past 5. I’m actively trying to get out of it. It’s so toxic.
My advice to people considering this field- make sure you work at an organization that actually supports you with management that will get off your ass about what you do and not hold you to insane metrics. In my experience, bosses expect waaaay too much out of you without paying you for that extra work. It’s also super demoralizing when managers, not understanding what you do, decide to move the goal posts further and further back.
For many, this is a great career, but I’ve burnt out and bc would rather return to a lower paying job that want stressful. And the burn out for many marketers is real. Candidate be ware…

I agree with you. The certificates or certifications are just for added knowledge. People who excel in anything digital (digital marketing, social media advertising, social media mgt) are people who take social media as a hobby. They are always creative with content, and they have the highest engagements on their pages.
Someone help me: Part 2; which one will I choose? It depends only on me. Now I must choose between A, B, C, or D. Look, to achieve this life, I need a lot of money, but a lot of money indeed, but I will build it as I gain knowledge and wisdom, and of course, money. I need to choose: A) Look for a profession that I really like B) Pursue a profession that will pay me very well C) Give up the profession D) Think and ask. There are several professions where you can earn millions and also become rich, but that happens with the person who had the ability to strive and dedicate years of hard work to achieve what they have; this person had to pay the price to get rich. You know, the day I wanted the internet profession was: an internet profession that I love and that is profitable. Profitable. High earnings. If I focus on the gain in profitability, I may end up not liking what I do. But with this, if I choose the lucrative profession, it is likely that I will achieve the life I desire. Look, I don't know what I like to do, especially work. How am I going to find a profession that I really like? Should I look for a profession that I really like? Imagine that I found a profession that is on the internet, and… I tried it and liked it. I will be happy, but on the other hand, I may be disappointed because of? Money and profitability. If the profession that I really liked will pay me little, I leave it or look for another profession that I like, or do I pursue a profession that will pay me very well? Should I focus on money or passion? You know, there's a point I forgot; it's not how much money you earn but what you do with it. I just got made redundant in my digital marketing role, because of AI. I was forced to start using chat gbt to speed up the process of content creation… and now I've been pushed out because my boss says he can no longer justify it as a full time position.
If you really want to try this career, be aware of just how much of an impact technology has. It's not as glamorous as you might think, in a world where your SEO keyword research and use of AI valued more than your content creation ability.
Still interested? I would think about working for an agency, rather than with a brand/company directly. I was the latter, and they now outsource to an agency.
As an HR professional who has a degree in marketing I won’t say school is necessary but it helps. When hiring managers or anyone looking to hire you looks at your resume they don’t only look at skills, but also gauging your commitment level. School is an indicator to managers that you are serious about work and willing to learn. Digital marketing is ever changing and it’s true some college programs can’t keep up, but what school does help with is foundational skills that can be built upon. I can tell you right now a lot of marketing jobs I see (in the corporate world) require some form of formal education. But this video has great insight into a lot of the realities of the digital marketing space

I'm currently a graphic designer with a interest in getting into filmmaking. My job is paying for education and I'm stuck between getting a certification in Digital Marketing or UX design. I'm wondering what would be more useful to me in the long run

To become successful in this field we need to prove ourself, when we start learning we have to practically prove it as well, like a blogging or vegging and the tactics..once you get tested all your skills you will learn better and be sure to be up to dated in all the technics…I have done it and made a self confidence.. after that you will enjoy this career..its challenging and competitive.. best artistic career guys..kudos..good luck

A bachelor's degree is still valuable in marketing, bro. It's a basic minimum requirement in most job postings. So for you to say you don't have to go to college to get into marketing isn't really true, in most cases.

what if its only two more years of school for me to get a digital marketing degree ( I have all my pre recs done and the rest I can finish off at a good school in Chicago)
also I would be doing a lot of the extra certifications as well to heighten my skillset and pad my resume and do personal projects as im involved with local business making instagram video content etc.

And small companies don't understand that marketing IS ESSENTIAL!
I was paid decent but let go after 7 weeks Because they no longer want to have social media. I never even received a credit card to create ads yet I have done it all! PPC, SEO, AND SOCAL MEDIA! USUALLY JOBS WANT YOU TO DO ALL OF IT!
